radio question 700 1989

This question may sound petty but it is important! I own a great running 1989 740 with original TD-6141 radio. Radio presently displays the frequency/channel at all times. I would like to change this to display the time of day at all times instead. I know this is possible because I have seen many other 7's with same radio with time of day displayed, not the radio channel. Any suggestions? (Please don't say wear a watch!) Thank you.

Re: radio question 700 1989

Hi Jack,

I happen to have the manual for the radio (probably one of the few people who has a second hand car and has the radio manual left in the glove compartment) so you are in luck (even went out to the car to get it and look up your answer:)). to change the clock mode you will need to pull the radio out of the dash (not a hard thing to do, it pulls out fairly easily, haven't done it in a while but as I recal some gentle prying at the top of the radio will allow the radio to come right out). there is a switch on the back of the radio,

in the on position the time is normally displayed, the frequency can be called up for about 5 sec, in the off position frequency is normally displayed, time can be called up for about 5 sec. sounds like yours in in the off position, so go ahead and switch it. This should help (though if it like mine your am radio recetion will still be awful)

Re: radio question 700 1989

Do you have the origional owners manual. It should say in there how to keep the date and time instead of frequency. If there is a button for Date/Time I would try to hold that in for a couple of seconds, maybe that will set the default to that. I am totally quessing, but it can't hurt to try.

Here is the actual owner's manuals

http://www.extras.volvocars.com/owners/ownersManuals.htm

The format is not that easy to navigate but if you've lost your owner's manual you can find the radio info there.
