mode selector errors 900 95

When I started my 960 today, the winter mode indicator on the dash (the arrow pointing up) started blinking. We had snow here a few days ago, and the wife put the selector in winter mode. Today is the first day I have driven the car since the snow. When I asked my wife about the light she said "what light?" So, it might have been on for a few days.

The manual states that this indicates a "fault in the automatic gearbox". The car seems to run ok, but the winter mode button (which I tried pressing a few times when I first saw the light) doesn't do anything. Does anyone have any experience with this or any idea of the sort of problem this indicates? The car has 58058k miles on it, and I just got itLast month! (mt first Volvo).

Am I doomed? Is there a reset? or do I have transmission troubles?

    Terry,

    Your about the Twentieth person that has posted about this problem. Its the Gear Selector switch otherwise know as the PNP switch. This just needs replacing and is $375 to get it fixed.

    How does your 960 handle in the snow? Im going on a trip in a few weeks to the snow and I was debating on weather or not to take the 964 or my infiniti Qx4.

    I had this last month, for me it was the gear selector switch in the transmission. It only did it in the morning when cold but for months I also noticed at night when backing up the driveway the reverse lights wouldn't illuminate without jiggling the gear shift. New switch took care of it.

    Did you r'check engine' light come on? It may be the gear selestion switdh. Try turning your ignition key five times (without staring engine) then start up and see what's happening
