Can I switch the front seat? 200 1988

My passenger seat is shot. The foam is bad and the springs are poking out. I almost always ride by myself and would like to switch them...

I can live with the lumbar support being on the wrong side.

Can I make the switch?

I have read the info on repairing the seat with junk yard foam, but they want $75 for a seat in any condition and then I would have to do surgery on the current one. Is there a cheaper way to repair the seat?

Ideas appreciated.

    Robert,

You have the reverse of most people, usually it is the drivers seat that goes bad and that is the hardest to find.

    A. You can swap the front seats but the angle adjustment will be on the inside and probably won't fit, next to your seat belt plug.

Better idea is to post an add for a passengers seat. I would be surprised that you can't find one in good shape (you need to have one of the 86+ year seats). Actually, you can put any year seat in your car, but the foam is different, as is the stiching on the outside.

The other option is seat covers, but that will be more than you will have to pay for another seat. Good luck.

The problem comes with the seatback adjuster hitting the seatbelt console. You can take the seatbase foam from side to side, or I think you can unbolt the seatback adjusters and switch them to the other seat.

The seats can be interchanged easily. You must switch the mounting

framework from a drivers seat to the passenger seat to make it fit right. Easily done. I took a drivers seat from an 84 240, switched the seat bottoms/framwork to get the adjustable mechanism on the passenger side and it fits perfectly in my 89 240. Mark
