gearbox swap 120-130 68

Is a '58 gearbox - I assume from a 544 - the same as the one in my son's 68 122 wagon? Will the old one fit?

Thanx!

Re: gearbox swap 120-130 68

It will not unless it came from behind a b18. The 58 would have come with a b16 and would have had an m3 (three speed) or an m4 (four speed) and produced until the 1962 model, which came with the b18 engine. I found out the hard way by having to buy two trannys before I got the right one. Lesson learned, and no one said education was cheap. One way to go is to find a late model 4 speed, from a 75 240 with the b20 motor. It had a better gear ratio in the first two gears to move the bigger car. (I know where there is one....)
