hooking up gauges, need help 200 1986

i picked up a Battery Gauge from the junkyard out of a 240 turbo. I'm

putting it in an '86 240 DL, with the stereo located at the top of the

dash. so i decided to put the gauge in one of the two spots next to the

radio. any idea how to wire it? It got two sets of terminals, one set

(prongs) that i believe is for the light, and a smaller one up top that

probably juices the gauge. i thought i could splice into the wiring for

the fuel or temp gauge, but it is supposedly regulated 10V. Thanks in

advance.

Dor --

I've done this on several of my cars.

The power for the instrument light connects to the small black gizmo sticking from the back of the gauge, and requires ting female connectors. You can scrounge these from a junk—they're identical to those used on the clock.

You can wire the light into the circuit for the clock.

The power connections go (1) to a good, solid ground, and (2) to a source of switched +12-volts. I ran mine to the fuse panel and selected an unused connector on a fuse that powers when the key is on.

The picture below shows the backside of the gauge. The top connections are the bulb, the lower powers the gauge. Ordinarily, a large black push-on connector is used for the ground and +12-volt wires, which you can see in the pix.

This is an installation in my '86 245.
