front bushings 200 80

I definately need to do something about the bushings on the lower front.I had it up on a lift, rubber is totally tore up.The car has 183K.I can really feel a shake when appling the brakes, seems to be getting worse. The parts are easy enough to get,but is this one of those "do a lot of swearing, better take it to the shop" repairs or can I do it myself?.I have access to a lift and air tools. Also are there alternatives to the OEM part.

Any help is appreciated!

I'm about to do the same task this weekend. I'm not sure about pressing in/out the front control arm bushing - whether it can be pressed in at home. I can let you know how it went. One can always take the assembly to a machine shop, etc.

I got my bushings and ball joints from gapa.com - a whole kit for about $70 with shipping.

Just changed one of these last week, its mainly the large bush that goes bad, i did it in my driveway. Beat the old bushing out with a small sledge and beat the new one in with the od bush as a tool, worst part is usually gatting the old bushing center sleeve off of the suspension arm shaft. WD40 and a pair of vice grips and hammer wil usually get that off.. Tom Wasney 240aholic

This might seem a stupid question, but here goes anyway.

I was just battling my front bushings today. The left one (big a-arm bushing) was popping every time the suspension traveled up and down. It turned out that the problem was corrosion on the A-arm shaft. I greased that shaft and put the whole thing back together and it is silent.

When I checked on the right side one, however, it was frozen to the shaft. I always grease the a-arm shafts before installing the A-arm, but should I be doing the opposite instead?

Whatever works, go with it. My drivers side was a little noisy and i shot some atf in it thinking it would make it a little quieter. Right after i did that it really started rattling. Found the center bushing shaft separated from the bushing, now that i replaced it it's nice and tight and quiet............... Tom Wasney 240aholic

I just did this a couple of weeks ago. No special tools other than a vice and a hammer. The big bushings popped out pretty easy. The little ones were a b&$*# and had to be torched out.

      Good Luck.

      Tom
