1st. speed and Cold Duck. 200 90

I've got a small problem with the 1st. speed on my 245 wagon. I replaced the blower motor last year, a tedious job but not as bad as I thought. The other day I replaced the 4 speed switch with hopes of getting a low blower setting. No dice. Oh where, oh where has my 1st. speed gone?? Never had it in the 6 years I've owned the car.

Also, why is the heat warm on the drivers side but blows much colder on the passenger side? Who done what,me,worry...... previously to me owning this brick?? I replaced the heater control valve 3 years ago, also the radiator and 2 thermostats, one of them a 92 C.. I believe somebody was phartin' around with the duct work before I owned this car. I don't notice anything unusual looking on the passenger side with the glove box out. Need help from anyone who has heard of this problem before. Cold Duck

Re: 1st. speed and Cold Duck. 200 90

The warmest air should come out of the center vents since there is less distance for the air to travel. In my car, the passengers side and drivers side vents don't blow as warm as the center vents. I don't know how to fix the missing speed, or else I'd do it on my 240. I only have the 3rd and 4th speed.

On my '87 240, there's an off posistion, plus 4 speeds.

Re: 1st. speed and Cold Duck. 200 90

In your case the reason you only have a 3rd and 4th speed is probably because the other two sections of the resistor (usuall mounted conveniently in thblower motor case) are burned out. Unless you really love the car, waqit until the blower motor needs replacing and do both at once.

This may also be the problem for the first poster if he did not replace the resistor when he did the motor.

I seem to recall that the # 1 setting on the blower switch is the off position (making it a three speed).
