Mercon V vs Dexron III in a 240 200 1993

I didn't see any hits here for Mercon V so figured I'd add this in case it helps anyone else.

Most Ford guys (I'm one) agree that Mercon V is fine where Dexron III was originally called for. It's what we run in the 4R100, for example.

So I'm going to top off my 1993 244 with Mercon V now. Its tailshaft is leaking, imagine that. The old girl needs some love and care.

Use the factory suggested lubricant in the AW7x auto transmission.

How many miles?

From the factory, it is Dexron III for your AW7x.

There is some debate here about newer versions of Dexron in AW7x. I'm not sure. I drive manual gearbox in 240 since 1984,

Please don't use ATF in the differential. In short order, you can ruin it. You use an API GL-5 that is mineral or a synthetic lubricant in the differential.

If your transmission leaks from the output or tail-shaft flange area on AW7x on a 1993, the output shaft assembly seal has failed, or the tail-shaft bearing (not bushing. The tail shaft bearing wear and replacement are no longer available.

Redline and Amsoil are choice lubricants for Volvo owners as well as others. Choose your year and model and see what lubricants each recommends.

When you read through the FAQ for the share bit 700/900 has with 240, like:

How is the brake fluid Black? Get a Motive brake fluid power bleeder and push out the old fluid with new DOT 4.
