8.8 hardness 240 front caliper bolts OK? 200 1993

I bought new OEM discs from IPD and they came with new caliper bolts as one would expect. But they don't fit, too long and wrong thread pitch. IPD wants $16 plus that much again shipping to send me the correct bolts. Meh.

So I took an old bolt to NAPA to match. They look like they say 10.9 hardness on the head, but it's hard to see. NAPA only has 8.8 hardness so I bought four of them. I reckon that will be fine. If not I can change them later.

Like Chris, I'd go with the original bolts. My gut feel about the advice to use new every time says its 85% liability protection and 15% knowing you get the red threadlocker patch. I've re-mounted calipers in the dozens, only sometimes for new discs, and even after switching to the blue-box rotors, just collect the new bolts sent with them in a drawer.

Personal opinion only……
I would trust the original 10.9’s before I’d swap them out for the 8.8’s, as long as the originals don’t look badly corroded or stretched.

Others here may differ.

My old ones look original, with some visible erosion of threads before the shoulder starts. So I'm not too comfortable running them. Oddly, the brake lines don't look 30 years old.

So I put in the NAPA bolts with blue on them and put the correct ones in my cart at IPD. Next order of schtuff, I'll amortize that shipping cost. There will certainly be more to do on this car. My daughter will daily it while I get her 78 242GT in shape.

Thanks gentlemen. Standard disclaimers.
