RIP Mrs Klankenborg 200 1991

Spun out awhile back on a wet road swerving to avoid a deer. Hit a jersey barrier backwards HARD. I was able to drive home, barely; rear tires were grinding on something and suspension was locked up. I was pretty sore for a week after.

As I live in a rental complex I could not have parted it out without a lease violation so off she went to a local Volvo dismantler. Repair was out of the question. Loved that old bitch but she was tiiiiired and in need of a lot of work.

So long y'all, thanks for all the help over the years. I bought that car in 2008. Learned a lot about 240s! But moving on to something else.

Tried to post a pic but it errored out.

There is a replacement out there awaiting your love and devotion. Take your time and pick a nice one. Be prepared to travel to somewhere rust free. They don't make them like they used to.

Derek is absolutely correct with idea that there is another 240 in the wings. Volvo made almost 3 million of these precious gems. Look for 240 that's was made in Sweden not Belgium since the bodies lasted longer overall.
We had a 1990 from new and finally had to retire it because of the rust belt situation here in the midwest. It was sad day for this 414,000 mile car but 30 years is a lot more than most other cars.
I have seen some nicer cars on facebook of all places for sale here in the midwest and they were at a reasonable price in my opinion.

My condolences. Sometimes an "event" such as you had tells you when it's "time". My 1980 245 told me last year, when after over 20 years of daily service, I stepped out of my house to witness an 18 inch section of the left side rocker panel dropped to the ground. At least it served as a donor - the steering rack the first to go--the M46 soon afterwards. Now it's a storage shed. - Dave

Hi,

Sorry to hear we are losing a Brickster to the lack of having a 240.

I surely would hate to lose one my economic equalizers.
Keep us in your archives of passwords so you can drop in with your knowledge of 240s.

Entertainment doesn’t get any less expensive than what goes on here.
We all know by owning one of these cars is like putting money in a virtual behind the scenes bank.
Used Volvos have gained lots of value to a few enthusiasts that found out, with more than an accident that they missed them too much.

Now is a time to reevaluate what you really appreciated your 240 for in the New Jersey areas.
Sizing up those attributes towards what is coming on the market in the near future is a challenge for sure.
You may consider another 240 or some other “stop gap” vehicle to NOT invest heavily in.
I say this with some explanation below.

The evaluation will have to be around trying to be independent of electronic gadgets and service intervals. This can help keep you away unskilled or caring mechanics and overpriced dealers and a parts exchanging facility. Most are set on timetables with a stop watch to an oil draining episode.

The 240 was more easy to maintain by an owner than what's in the pipeline even with electric vehicles on the horizon.
With China playing a very large role of questionable quality standards globally the electric vehicles changeover will be a mixed bag of brewing controversy.

It is falling in between batteries versus apparently will be ultimately with hydrogen fuel cells.
Australia and Asia as a whole are thinking flying tankers to move liquid hydrogen around.
Europe is sliding that way too.

It appears to me that the USA is going to get ripped if they only keep pushing on batteries and their pollution factors considered.
They can barely agree on what charging station and type of a universal connector.

This could be as bad as all the different ways of cords and adapters to charge your computers in the last twenty years. Those things were only the size of your hand, not a whole array of stands and parking spaces.

The governments of all countries has been floating the worlds economy with paper bartering.
The USA has been repairing massive amounts of roads and new sidewalks in many small towns without considering inductive charging lanes.
Setting up charging in malls for a few minutes of charging in shopping areas? Really, who benefits from them waiting period for that?

There are thousands of motoring employees stopped for hours.
Going to work for money is one thing but charging my ride, is more enticing to go there everyday.
Build solar/wind charging with drive up inductive charging that reads a vin from underneath.
Those charging/parking lots are already everywhere that drivers go to and from?

If you a working stiff or not look around and you will see what I mean.

The stupidity of so many misguided ideas here is what keeps me maintaining and driving my classics as long as I can.

Volvo built our cars for the right reasons with a longevity niche of the times.
But the world today is in a speed mode of changing for reasons to keep busy upon which is a very large scale to propel cycles.
Cheap throw it away attitudes with the shorter terms being a trend it seems.

Finding VALUE are the harder cards to get and hold with this newer game.

Phil
