1991945 manual window winder handle

I have just broken off the round knob on my 1991 945 rear window winder. It was held by a double tang which just slotted into the winder handle.
I need to get the handle off to attempt a repair, but can't see how it might be held.
Any tips on handle removal and repair appreciated.
Happy Christmas to all!

Ian F

I don't know why it didn't let me sign in -- but here's the answer to your question. Take a small flat blade screwdriver and place it into the seam between the handle body near the knob and its center trim piece. With a little twist or prying motion the trim piece will release from where it's secured near the knob and then it wraps around the curve at the pivot point. Once removed you'll see the screw head securing the handle. It's usually a philipshead but may be a torx screw. Take note of where the handle points when the window is raised. Usually it takes a bit wiggling around the get the handle off the serated post -- and sometimes they'er really stuck. I have a bunch of spares available. If you have a source for used parts nearby -- they are all the same from the beginning of the 240 series. -- Dave - Volvo From Heck

Thanks Dave, I will give it a try. I would be interested in getting a spare part, but I think you are a little bit too far away from me (for some reason I can't see any profiles at the moment).
      Many thanks,

I sent you an email. For general information--since this is a common occurrence--I think it happens when the windows become harder to lift due to dirt and lack of lube. Removing the door card and addressing the root cause is the true fix. Replace the worn handle with one from a back door after the fix is done. I live on Long island, NY. - Dave

Fixed it now Dave, after successfully removing the crank. I used a screw surrounded by hot glue (plastic) from a glue gun. Hopefully it will last.
I am in Scotland by the way, near Edinburgh
