940 no start ? at times dies while driving,, 900 1993

i replaced the fuel pump & the Relay by the battery,failed to start,,replaced the white relay & started right up!!
It ran for 2 hrs & ran about 30 miles& then it died. I did take the accumulater off& used a short fuel line to get it to fit into the tank again,.Keep having those problems every since the muffler bracket broke & I had to replace the cat.

    finally GOT IT APART & THEHOSE INTERNALLY HAD COME OFF THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF,,ITS BEEN 6 MOS NOW TILL GOT DOWN ON MY HANDS& KNEES TO CRAWL IN THE BACK,,

    NEVER BUY A LENOVO LAPTOP THE KEYBOARDS ARE ALL JUPY & JUST PURE JUNK

      a couple of days ago I re installed the pump correctly & it worked & spurted fuel..
      today nothing,,just hoolked up pressure gauge & 0 no power at the harness to the fuel pump?
      Sprayed starter fliud in the intake hose & Its started to rumble??

    I bought another ecu off ebay. The Volvo # i need is 6842882 The 1 I got is that same # but the seimasns # on mine is s101590202B!! WHILE THE EBAY //SIEMANS #
    IS S 101590202 A??

    i PULLED OUT THE PUMP& NOW IM FIXING THE WIRE CONNECTIONS & THE PUMP IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OR PUT BACK IN W THE ACCUMULATOR ATTACHED .i SEE OTHER SETUPS ONLINE & NOT ALL USE AN ACCUMULKATOR ANYONE DO W OUT IT??

      Ok finally I have it wired correctly & installed it..w a new sock from napa,[since all the socks from FCP fell off.]
      So I cranked it up & I can hear it run but it doesnt start the engine,,.Why would a new pump w only 2 hrs on it do that??

    all my problems happened after the car died when cat was flooded due to cheap crap muffler bracket that faiiled after 6 mos? that caused oxy sensor to add more gas&clogged cat THANKS FCP

      Take a deep breath, and start fresh.
      How about responding to questions in my first post ?

      Diagnose when it is crapping out to help locate the problem or
      even worse, multiple problems.
      If it stays busted it's easier to fix.
      The ones that quit and work at random are the nastiest to find and resolve.

        Ive had my 940 sitting since sept..Good thing I get dekkliveries on 3verything I need,,NEVER BUY A LENOVO LAPTOP PURE JUNKK,
        nEW PUPP NEW SOCK NEW FUEL LINE FROM PUMP TO HOUSIN,
        i HAVE FUEL SPURTING OUT OF HOUSING,
        i GUESS THE INJECTORS ARE FIRING??? nEW FUEL RELAY UNDER DASH,,NEW RELAY BY BATTEREY

            Lenovo refues to fix the laptop I bought from them& every thing I type out takes twice as long as I have to go back & fix it..
            The fuel assembly housing that holds the pump in place,,

        definetly the FCP fuel pump!! Bad connections for wires. I last did it june this year & it failed. again mean while I replaced loads of otjher parts.

          Did you check for codes?
          It's hard to help you troubleshoot if you don't respond.

          I think you have the Regina with the single in tank pump.
          Carefully check the ground wire for the fuel pump.
          If it has crimp connections, pull on them hard, you may have a flaky
          ground wire.
          Beware cheapo crimp lugs and connectors, don't use lousy crimp tools.
          Dave Barton has an excellent review of crimp tools.
          The wagon ground point is low down by the right tail light assembly.

          You can rig up your VOM with the ground wire on the cigar lighter ground
          and when the engine quits, see if you have 12 VDC at Fuse 11.
          Put the probe on top of the ATC fuse where you can see the top of each leg.

          Even if the pump is working, the RSR can shut down the injectors, so you need
          to verify whats happening to home in on the root cause of the agony.

          Speaking of connectors, the main fuel relay plugs into the fuse block and each connector pin is a female spade lug that can get spread open and get loose.
          The pins can be removed from the fuseblock and carefully closed up and/or you can order some new pins from Dave Barton. He has the real quality stuff for ordinary and high current.

          You can make a gauge to see if you have borked relay socket pins with a male spade lug the same thickness as the fuel relay pins. Crimp to a stiff copper wire for a gauge.
          Hint: the relay pins can get damaged (spread open) with repeated pulls and insertions.

          Just for fun, pull the main fuel relay:
          Check each pin in the socket to see that each pin is tight.
          You can make a tool to release the pins from the fuse block out of a bicycle spoke and just grind it into a long thin straight slot screwdriver to slide along the back of the pin to release the latch.
          Use vise grips to tighten and not totally crush the female pins so that they are just tight enough.

              Be more specific. I'm not clairvoyant

              Tell me: Assuming Fuse 11, 4 what? Volts Amps? How did you measure?
              Pump harness you get 10.4 what? Volts or Amps when cranking
              How did you Measure?
              The idea is to measure voltage at fuse 11 when the running car decides to quit. See if you lose voltage to the fuel pump then, not when starting.

              Your OBD codes
              223 Throttle position sensor signal low
              Maybe bad wiring from TPS to ECU ?
              132 Transmission control module ?

              You can clear the codes and try again, see if the codes return.

              You never confirmed that you serviced all grounds and yanked on crappy crimp
              lugs and connectors. Especially the two on the intake manifold.

                At fuse #11,4 amps I get. At the fuel pump harness I get 10.3 volts,,New Battery full charge. I cleaned the grounds on intake manifold & the valve cover..Im trying to find the other grounds.
                just replaced the Crank sensor,, still no start
                I have copd & Im having many things fixed & then I have 6 dog & 8 cats so its a lot of works feeing & cleaning after them..
                Luckily & Im retired &can get orders delivered
                I thought that 223 was IAC? I have another TPS so I may try that..

                yeah I used a volt meter on fuse 11..& it read 4? then I took off the plug for the fuel pump assembly,[I ran the & the pink wire registered 10.4 volts *& I stuck the neg probe w the black wire .So Its got power there So its something i did w the pump .I think I did a bad job w solder. I replaced the pump in my 740 & that used 1/4" nuts to hold the wires on .It was Much better arrangement.I dont like the weller gun,,I used its doent get hot enough.

                  Tip of the day -Weller soldering guns 900 1993

                  When Weller guns (or clones) lose their heat, remove the tip and thoroughly clean the contact area nice and shiny, like w/emery or steel wool, and also clean up the stud ends as best you can. Thoroughly tighten the nuts. You might be amazed. I inherited an old gun that barely got warm. I was thinking of chucking it until I found that tip. Now it's like new.

            i GOT 223&/132
            i HAVE REX REGINA W SINGLE TANK PUMP,,,bEFORE IT STOPPED IT WAS IDLING FINE,SO 223 HAS TO BE WRONG

    Hi Peter

    A stubborn problem over there!

    Do you have more details?
    Does it completely die?
    Do lights go out in your dash when it quits?
    Does it throw codes?
    What do the plugs look like when it quits?
    Does the engine try to start with starter fluid?

    You've been chasing Fuel, but maybe it's ignition?
    When it quits, confirm you Do or Don't have spark.
    (Yes this is a major PIA when the problem comes and goes)
    There's a service plug in the engine bay to crank the starter and you could
    pull a plug wire and use an extra plug to check spark when it is refusing to start.

    Maybe it's a buggy ECU/wiring? When's the last time you did a very careful
    inspection/servicing for all the engine grounds? Especially the two on the intake manifold and maybe one to the transmission bell housing.

      No lights dont dim,spark is at the coil wire,,valves turn under oil cap..definitely fuel pump doesnt work First pump i replaced had scred on connectors very easy,,this needs solder & it doesnt seem to hold on.At least thats what to thionk untill I pull it out
