1994 940t 307K
We were at dinner with friends last night. The car failed to start. Because of traffic I couldn’t hear the pumps cycle. I swapped out the fuel injection relay and the RSR but still no start. I checked and had spark. I scooted under the car and found a silent pump when my wife tried to start the car. As I was hitting the pump with my flashlight she tried again and it started. We drove the 25 miles home with fingers crossed.
I got up this morning and installed a new pump and filter. All is well. The car is just shy of 307K. I would say that twenty eight years and that many miles is pretty good service out of the original pump.
I opened the pump up and used a cheap digital caliper to take some measurements. The commutator was .066 while the space between the brushes was .063. The brushes were absolutely done moving.
