Hi Grey,
Looks like a learning day on the Brickboard!
My wife and I didn't know that either, thanks!
If you watch the introduction part to the latest series of "Sherlock Holmes."
You see an example of that in a rolling ball on a track!
Yep cartoons were the rage from 1800's to the 1960's.
Lots of people couldn't read and write.
That came along with lots of hard working Europeans and Craftsmenship that built America.
Oh, how we forget the dependence on each other, on this planet, while seeking independence!
My Grandfather, on my mothers side, couldn't read but I remember him holding the newspapers open to the comic section, a lot!
The Sad Sack comic strip of the Army used no words I think?
He studied that way and he bought products by brand labels.
So there you go, why Americans are soooo ... brand crazy today! Marketing and packaging!
When I first saw that rail fitting my thoughts gravitated on .... "What a "Goldbricking" piece of engineering that is!"
Sad Sack was sort of a goldbricking person in the Army.
If you think about it, there is that Special Tools Department in Volvo, that has its own section in manuals! Probably not bad for a couple of engineers involvement.
The only explanation is they like to get overtime "thinking pay" and that is collected from all the dealership service bays worldwide!
The term "self funding" comes mind!
When I developed an issue with my 1986 wagon, I silver soldered a Shrader 1/4" refrigeration fitting into the pipe. It's pointing upwards though, as my A/C gauge set hose likes to go straight onto fittings!
Once you realize what a fuel pressure flow or rest pressure problem can do you learn the symptoms of a bad FPR or the fuel pumps.
I have a 1984 also, but haven't put one on it.
It's the brick part of me, that is definitely not golden, but a heavy gray material ):-)
The '84 has gone through two Fuel Pressure Regulators over the years I have had it, maybe more!
The 1984 is the LH 1.0 and since is prone to failures, on my score sheet!
I believe changes were made towards longevity later on along with the fittings being different, because they JUST can!
Neither style has leaked, but there they go, specializing again!
No interest in newer than my three 90's with single CEL computers.
$$$ Scan tool vendors and alike included. $$$
I'm watching the electric car progression with interest and so far the lots of stupidly runs deep with ways to connect power, let alone the auto driving conundrums.
Their going to be overly expensive, than what it truly takes to make these "fewer parts" machines.
Today's vehicles are outlandishly overpriced and they are not going to give up on that market!
It All still stinks and America's big three are like chickens looking for feed, Rather chaotic! IMHO
As the Shadows of past have shown, with one or two year production runs and the proprietary Golden $$$ Boys still gaming us, as in, like the old world of hundreds of different wall warts!
Boy, that simple subject ran out deep this morning! (:)
Have I liked the stability of Volvo, of past or what?
Phil
