1972 Volvo 145 door mirrors 140-160 1972

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to purchase door mirrors for a 1972 Volvo 145. I have found 3 sites offering them:
1. classicvolvorestoration.com
2. vp-autoparts.com
3. classicvolvoparts.co.uk

All three sites seem legit to me, but I've never ordered Volvo parts online before. Any recommendations regarding these 3 sites or others I've overlooked are more than welcome.

Thanks,
Daniel

I cannot even imagine a better vendor than Eric.

Consider this - he even mentioned VP autoparts - would they (or anyone else mention Eric)?

If you buy from Eric, I doubt that he will send you a "New" version of the mirrors that were made to price not quality!

Let us know how you made out.

If your car has never had door mirrors, i.e. there are no screw holes, make sure you realise that the ones that you show here are mounted differently. The ones that have the arm pivot at the front allow the quarter lights to be reversed when driving for cheap A/C the ones with the arm at the rear do not. One type mounts from the outside with self tappers and the other have bolts that have nuts attached inside the door. The later means you have to take the door cards off. Both types can be mounted behind the strip between the quarterlight and the window but this isn't a very good choice.
Buy either type from Eric. Support the "little" guys.

I own and operate a repair shop specializing in rear wheel drive Volvos and we buy a large percentage of our vintage(pre-1975)parts from VP.

We also get a lot of parts right from Volvo and Volvo still sells the door mirrors.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply. I'll give VP a shot. For reference, can you share with me the official Volvo website where you also get many of your parts?

Thanks,

Daniel

Daniel,

Do yourself a favor and just order them from Eric at High Performance. He'll get them for you from whatever the best source is. He's a great resource both for parts and knowledge on these cars. Even oftentimes will have some used items that can be very difficult to find.

I'll relate my experience when looking to replace the sideview mirrors on my 1969 144S. At the time I worked for an indy Volvo repair shop that used Volvo original parts mostly. The dealer listed the mirrors and ordered them. The mirrors looked just like the originals but were made of plastic rather than metal. Once mounted I found they did not offer the range of adjustment of the originals - making them almost useless. Although they were a special order item the dealer took them back. The originals are still on the car. - Dave

That's interesting as I've never seen 1 of those mirrors made of plastic in nearly 40 years of working on old Volvos.

AFAIK, the base and arm have always been made of chromed pot metal and the back of the mirror head is chromed sheetmetal with the mirror glass crimped inside and that is what we sell and usually have in stock.

Well over 10 years ago, there was a change in the way the mirror head is made by the addition of a plastic gasket that surrounds the mirror glass at it's perimeter, so you can easily identify the later production mirror heads.
