544 radiator 444-544 1961

I am in the process of changing the B16 nose piece for the B18 nose piece and wanted some advice.
I have a 1987 Chevy 2.5L engine installed and wondered if a B18 radiator would cool it. The B18 radiator holds 2-1/4 gallons and the Chevy radiator holds 3 gallons.
Do you think it would work if I installed a pusher fan ?

Thanks for any input.

Ray J.

Another reason to go with a better fan and radiator is that the plenum in front of the radiator has to be much smaller than most newer cars.

I realize that the air only passes through the radiator, bot if the grill and plenum in front of and American radiator is larger it may well pack more air through the radiator at speed.

PLUS - cooling is frequently an issue with many engine swaps, older V8 cars, and V8s that have been souped up.

Not just any pusher fan. I would use the Highest CFM fan available from SPAL.

Thanks for the advice. I will measure for the biggest fan after the nose piece is swapped out and see if the hinges interfere. Never had a car that used an electric fan.

And even though I don't like them due to fitment issues, you might consider using 1 of the aluminum radiators being sold.

The fitment issues are with mounting brackets as they don't align correctly with the bolt holes and the stock mounting grommets don't fit properly in the side brackets.

But aluminum transfers heat better, so maybe it's worth the hassle to install 1 in your case.

I am assuming the manufacturers of the aluminum radiators haven't fixed the fitment issues.

Thanks Eric. I am leaning that way. A stock B18 radiator being a gallon down from the S10 4 cylinder radiator makes me think it would not give the proper cooling even with a fan.
