Hi Charlie,

Didn't do much myself, Dave Barton took it in-depth. Just lucky the wasp nest was an old one.

Once I found the screws that hold the motor to the housing it came apart easily.
Dave has always helped me out. His website is great and he seems to have the things you can't get any more or find anywhere else.

Hi Art,

You are right!
Dave Barton has really built out his web site to your phrase “In-Depth!.”

I have done business with him and delivers just exactly what he says!

Thanks for reminding me to check him out again!

Phil

Hi,

Like I said, I couldn’t help you removing the mirror but it’s nice to know about the interior partition and rubber barrier.
I would think that those motors are fairly robust to where if they are getting power you should hear something? Is it only one that is dead?
Sorry!
I didn’t think to ask about what kind of problem brings you to want to look in there to begin with.
I can give suggestions or thoughts, like anyone else that has no experience! (:-)

On my 1993 it has two joy stick type switches down at the front of the parking brake lever console that are always getting something to land on them.
They are funky switches to boot!
I have had to clean them within a year car of getting the car three years ago. I got them to at least work without sticking but seems I can never remember which way to push them to get the right directions. Personally, I would never bought them as an option.

I have read that there are more problems with the wiring harness, that comes through the door hinge conduit, for other various things from time to time. The electric mirrors just add to this.
You.might want to disconnect the harness, from under the left side of the dash and check everything going that way into the door.
Wiggle or pinch the rubber conduit while using the switches! that hopefully, are in a nicer place than on my 1993!

Post back which way you continue your endeavors.

Phil

Electric mirror motor removal 200

Hi phil,
I should have said that I had a spare passenger side mirror and I was simply looking to see if someone had pulled one apart. The metal part of the mirror is in bad shape corroded. I wanted to save the motor just in case.

Electric mirror motor removal 200

Hi,

It’s been a long time since I was in a junkyard to see the insides of any mirror.
Never bothered with electric ones.
I have a ‘93 that has them but I haven’t collect those mirror parts, yet?

The 1986 model on went to short stubs.
That may have started with 1985 year.
That’s early for electrical one unless it was a GL models built on the side going forward with transitions.

I know there is an access slot on the underside in the center of the outer housing.
You have to insert something like a screwdriver up into the slot, behind the mirror to release a clip that holds the plastic mirror part to an internal frame.
The handles use cables to move the frame.

I cannot help you on what lies behind the frame and how the motor cranks things around.

This thread will be educational to me as well!

Phil

These mirrors where original equipment on my 244 ti,the mirrored glass part wasn't hard to remove but what is left is the plastic inside cover with a
rubber sheet over the motor.
I can't see anything like screws to hold the motor to the metal mirror housing.
