'77 242: need source for good fuel pump please 200

Time to cure gas leak around my fuel pump area. I'm 2nd owner of my nice condition 1977 242, so I try to take good care of it. About 160K miles on the clock.
Have owned it for about 18 years and I'm sure it's never had the fuel pump replaced. Regardless of where the leak is, I'm not having a mechanic dig in there without replacing the pump. I've purchased a lot from ipd over the years, however, their listings come up ,"does not fit," foe my '77. I would like to deal with, "one of our own Volvo folks," in getting one. Volvo branded would be great or maybe Bosch. I have lost touch with suppliers over the past few years so need suggestions where to shop......please. Also would be happy to hear what else ought to be replaced at this time. (I know there is a, "canister," of some sort up in there too). Will request high quality fuel injection hoses also, but have forgotten the markings for the best ones. Need to order soon, and appreciate any help any of you can offer. Dennis in E WA state

I would also buy the cross over line (the fittings come allready attached). You need to find out if you need pump to filter or pump to accumulator.

I'd think those pumps were pretty scarce but Eric does have a lot of hard to find stuff.

Your pump has the fuel outlet on the side of the pump instead of out the end like the '78 and later.

Even so, I would think you could adapt the later pump to work for you car.

The canister is likely the fuel filter. Eric should be able to supply. A package deal from him might be the way to go. I think that the Bosch pumps are expensive everywhere.

The 'canister' adjacent to the fuel pump is the fuel accumulator.

There's not much to them but they can go bad.

Prices are absurd for such a simple device.

I purchased a new accumulator and fuel pump on Ebay last year for my '79 244 when I was "throwing dollars at demons" trying to make it run right, after previous owner didn't drive it for 10 years. I finally swapped it over to a Holley 2 bbl carb which solved all my problems. I paid around $100 for the Bosch accumulator & about $65 for a Carter fuel pump. Although I ended up not using them I'll let them go with the car when I sell it, just in case someone wants to convert it back to fuel-injection.

Yes, but if it is the accumulator that is leaking, it's a lot cheaper than the Bosch fuel pump I'm offering.

I am only trying to clarify what the so-called canister is.

But out of curiosity, what is your price for the fuel pump? I didn't see it listed at your website.

Hello,

No problem. It always helps to know what parts are involved.

We charge $500.00 for an OEM NOS Bosch fuel pump for early K-jet(CIS) Volvos.

Maybe a new o-ring under the fuel sending unit the in-tank fuel pump with the gas tank fuel level sensor. Use a Volvo o-ring.

AC Delco made the original OEM in-tank pump. I'm unsure of that sold at FCP Euro is the same size. The difference being you may need a new section of submersible fuel line meant for submersion in ethanol gasoline blend.

1977 has an in-tank fuel pump? My 1975 and 1976 did not. Both 1979 240 models did have an in-tank fuel pump.

Hi Dennis,

Can I return to WA-state? Spokane is fine.

43 year old hard black nylon line is not forever.

AC Delco pump at FCP Euro. Find AC Delco PN 6441336 elsewhere for a better price.

VDO also made an intank pump.

The main Bosch inline fuel pump for your K-Jetronic injection system is not carried everywhere like iPd and FCP Euro. You'll have to search more for that part. The same part may be used on other K-Jetronic equipped auto like VW or more so Porsche.

Dave Barton and fuel pump relay circuits.

I can't find a main Bosch brand fuel pump for your 1977 242 with K-Jetronic.

at the Volvo Parts Webstore, you have several offerings to locate the Volvo PN for the fuel pump by model year 1977 with CIS fuel injection and B21. It appears their have been several pump change by VIN. Find you VIN and the pump model number, and at least you'll have a Volvo PN allowing you to maybe find a replacement main inline fuel pump.

Does the main inline fuel pump sound like a low hum with a slight buzz or does it sound like bees in a jar. Do the fuses for fuel pump run warm or hot.

Hope you find and can fix your leak.

Eric Planetman may have the best offer.

Hi KittyGrey!!
Good hearing from you; lost track of where you live now. Spokane's OK, but remember we live 80 miles WNW of there. Yes, your many tips and links are very helpful. I recalled that Eric had offered assistance some months ago, so am now working with him to solve my troubles. As soon as my mechanic has room to keep my '77 inside, I'll get it over there and we'll dig into the problem. Off now to read some of your links...... Dennis Odessa/Ritzville, E WA

Anything to return to Spokane. Saint Louis is the utter worst.

Hello,

We've got the new original Bosch fuel pump in stock.

There are universal pumps that can be rigged to fit that you can buy for cheaper, but what we have is the real deal.

Contact me through our website if you are interested.
