1992 940 Turbo adding head lighting relays. Looking for specifics

I have a 1992 940 turbo wagon that I'm upgrading to the European headlamp lenses with fog lights. I also obtained the factory fog lamps that mount under the bumper. Since I'm going to be spending time on the lights, I feel as though I would be wise to upgrade the light output of the lights. I understand I can do that via Relay. What gage of wire to I want to use for this project and where do I wand to obtain the relays and what brand. Also looking for a visual of the configuration that I will be assembling. Thanks for any information and happy bricking,

I did this mod to my 82 242 almost 20 years ago. I have Euro-spec Hella 4x6 headlights - two hi/lo and two high beams. At the time I bought 4 30A relays from Radio Shack for about $5 a piece. I used 1 relay for the low beams and 1 relay for the high beams on each side -- so, 2 relays on each side. I used 10 gauge from my 12V+ distribution point to power each relay. I used 12 gauge from the relay to the headlights. I used 10 gauge to ground everything. I kept all runs as short as possible. I tested all connections with my DVM and showed 0.00V drop on all connections. I'm getting 14.4V at the headlight at idle. SIGNIFICANTLY increased the lumen output of all lights. I just bought 5 30A relays with the plug branded Bosch for $12 on ebay. Yeah - probably made China.

Have fun with it!

Go here -- http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html -- great tech article about the potential benefits of adding relays and a schematic for how to wire it.

Make sure you provide a good grounding system for your project.

People often go to great lengths to supply power to an item and often fail to provide a robust ground.

You should add a couple of good grounds back to your battery. If you ground to a fender or the chassis, make sure they have adequate grounds back to the battery.
