Test port 2 light is on constant. No start. 200 1989

Port 6 flashes 1-1-1 but test port two lights up and stays on. There is no change when the button is pressed.
What should I look at? Thank you.

Hi,

Dave Stevens is right on with his comments as I have read that the 1989’s have these issues.

I found some information that covers a lot of cars and you will want to check out them all because they will give you options of how to test and maybe even repair the problem.

This is a lot of information at once, but it’s not as hard, if you follow and you stay on the one car you are concerned with. I tried to put them on here in some sort of order, in logical steps.
It’s a lot like a spiders web and can lead you to go in several directions.

I hope this helps as it requires a different skill levels, especially at the end.

He describes what Dave suggests you to do first.
It’s a great site for other information that can correct and supplement the Bentley, so look it all over!

Broken down by years and seems to be accurate from what I have seen in parts yards.
The chart talks about a pink label ECU being really bad on some years. Yellow on other years.
White labels being better.

This is a high end skill set Solution but fills in what Dave Stevens is saying about what fries!

Good luck
Phil

Unfortunately, the ‘89 LH 2.4 ECU’s are well known for such no-start failures and having the OBD socket LED staying constantly lit for port 2, albeit dimly, is a tell-tale symptom when this happens. The fuel pump circuitry near the edge of the board fries. Most of the 561s have needed to be replaced by now, but yours may still be original or a later replacement has now also failed. One way for you to confirm this would be to energize the fuel pumps directly using jumper wires at the fuse panel and see if it now starts. Please read the 700/900 FAQ here for more details and do a google search here or elsewhere on how to jumper the fuel pumps on a later 240 (earlier LH 2.2 and K-Jet
240s have slightly different procedures).

Dave -still with 940's, prev 740/240/140/120 You'd think I'd have learned by now
