1'91 245 Sticking gas pedal.

While climbing a hill on the interstate at full throttle, my gas pedal stuck to the floor for several seconds after taking my foot off the pedal. I was about to switch off the ignition when the pedal popped back up to it's normal position.

Needless to say, I'm not driving the car again until I have taken steps to ensure that this incident will not reoccur.

Has this ever happened to you?

Others have counseled you -- you've got some 'testing' to do with the car sitting still. Glad it wasn't a catastrophe.

The real question is -- how can anyone TELL when their naturally aspirated 240's throttle is stuck wide open? LOL....

Check the movement of the cable from accelerator pedal back to the throttle wheel (name?) in the engine compartment. It could be hanging up where the cable goes through the firewall or more likely it is out of alignment on the throttle “wheel”. It is also possible the throttle cable is stretched or damaged and needs to be replaced. I had to replace the cable on my 90 240.

Replace with new cable. Mileage related. I ordered a new one from my 745 wagon just because some of the cable sleeve covering is missing in places under the engine hood. Not waiting for a road side break down. Check the cable drum and make sure cable is on the drum wheel.Lube the drum wheel shaft.. Check throttle body shaft for free movement. Make sure No floor carpet is in the way of accelerator pedal. Spray lubricant into cable sleeve.....Cable get old and unwind and fray.
