Speaking of junking a Volvo...
I was going to put this in the classified ads but they seem to be nonexistent at the moment.
My '89 wagon has got to go. I don't want to junk it but if that's what it takes, so be it.
I am not exaggerating when I say this has been the most dependable car I have ever owned, Volvo or otherwise. It always ran like a champ. But I have neglected it for the last couple of years.
I won't bullshit you, though. Cosmetically, it leaves a lot to be desired. Some rust, bad paint, ratty interior...you know the type.
The fact is, I am tired of working on cars and any energy spent on such endeavors should really be applied to my 242.
This wagon would be a winter beater. Or it could be a parts car.
But I can't part it out as I have no place to store it and I cannot have a partially cannibalized car sitting in the driveway.
Here is some basic info. I can give any interested party a fairly comprehensive description of my service history and any specific problem areas.
'89 240DL wagon, LH 2.4, M47
VIN YV1AX8857K1844381
Purchased 3/05/05 @ approx 127,000 miles
177,221 current odometer reading
Blue metallic paint, blue cloth interior.
I think this car was from Chicago originally. I have no service records prior to my ownership but the fact that basic items such as spark plugs, oil filter and timing belt were all Volvo OE when I bought it in 2005 tend to indicate it was dealer serviced prior to my ownership although I cannot verify that. I replaced such items with NGK, Mann and Continental. Spring and Fall oil changes using Castrol GTX. During my ownership I have been the only person to make repairs to the car.
Many good parts on the beast but as previously mentioned, it's not a looker.
I filled the tank once a week with 91 octane. Fuel economy was a constant 23 mpg, city driving.
If no takers car will be donated to the local public radio station and they will just scrap it.
