the old directional signals trick- simple fix or hell on the rox 92 245 200 1992

hi sages- need your superb advice. this may be the simplest inquiry to appear ever on the forum. have been running my 92 245 wagon now for almost 10 years. here goes. driving tonight the directional left and right and blinkers stopped working. never had a problem with it before . right away put on the 4 way flasher hazard switch and it worked since didn't want to be rear ended when turning. 4 ways worked fine. all other lights work. Haynes book on 240s says check fuse on left lower panel. have to check which one for the directionals . if that checks ok then will check flasher canister behind lower left of center console. I suspect that is the problem. heard a buzzing emanating from there when I worked the dead signals. how tough is it to access that flasher?. don't want to have to dismantle the lower dash to replace it. do the 4 way flasher which works use the same flasher as the directional? blinkers on the dash cluster work fine with the 4ways . don't think it needs blinker fluid which shyster tried to pull on me a few years ago. sorry. is there also a separate relay component for the directional? . Haynes is confusing on this point. directional signal lever is not loose and seems to feel normal. thanks tons my bruthas . oldduke

It isn't the flasher, or the 4-ways wouldn't work. It is fuse 5. Probably the salt air has crept into the fuse panel. Just give it a spin and try your signals again. You are right, this is one of the simpler fixes.

hi arty b- thanks for your erudite reply. will check fuse 5 for salt deposits, swamp rats gnawing , corrosion corroding and cockroaches crunching. but wait are the directionals and 4 ways on the same circuit or separate circuits? some cars have separate circuits for the 2 flashing systems . surmise that is for safety purposes in the event one system is disabled, the other can still be used if the car is disabled or piled up on the edge of the creek. this would warn approaching coppas or other marauders to avoid plowing into you. wouldn't the single fuse if crapped out prevent power to the hazard 4 ways too? I must be missing something here. will report on the fuse check. thanks ton oldduke

They are on separate circuits, so that your hazard flashers work without the key, but the turn signals are switched by the ignition key. Don't look at the fuse. Just reach down, count 1-2-3-4-5 and give it a little spin.

hi art b- this is very embarrassing.makes me feel like a dimbulb. did exactly what you said and the directionals started working again. didn't even have to purchase fresh blinker fluid.fuse looked normal. figure shyster would have clipped me for $100,dealer maybe $1000. will owe you a cold schaeffer or a t bird and a turkey club on your next trip to south fla from stinking creek. probably should take out fuse and clean contacts on that fuse snap in. still getting an intermittent buzz when I use the directionals. figure that is the flasher. thanks tons oldduke ps like your quote at the end of the message
