Trailing Arm Bushing Tool Request 200

Hi,

Have you seen this thread?

https://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1669749/220/240/260/280/trailing_arm_bushing_shells_tool_request.html
There are many more!

The tool was made for Volvo or every how many cars use these bushings.
A maker, like OTC, makes their tools nice and useful.
Nice in that this unit is chromed and made of good hardened steel. The center piece just clips into place and holds its self there while you assemble and tighten the works up.
This whole setup is not so shippable for long distances due to weight.

Now, I bought mine used from the now out of business RPR outfit.
He stated then to me, he was very careful about lending it out for a rental charge and only to well known customers.
Due to complaints, He had to supply some long heavy box end wrenches since it takes a good deal of torque on the screw threads to pop the sleeve.

In the conversation, he said he lost one setup to teach him better about larger sizable deposits.
He said, considering he sold lots of those bushings he probably broke out a little ahead but he was In business for years.
His parts catalog is still used for references by many enthusiasts across many models of Volvo.
He also mentioned that, The newer cars have too many part changes to keep a in useful numbers of inventory.

I bought some parts cabinets that has tiny plastic stuff for them. He sold me the parts for the price of the cabinets to get rid of them. Some were 240 and the rest I have no idea what some are?
He said he wouldn’t wish dealing with these parts on anyone. I got my warning! (:-)

Along heading up a new relationship with him, I haggled with him down to a $110 for all of his setup. Of course, this after buying lots of future maintenance items to keep my fleet running. I felt I got cost on many items as he had to sell and move out of his building.
But....I have only used it twice on the same car. So that raised the price of each bushing to about $70 a side! Luckily I have five more cars! Still working out the cost on my not so wise decision, maybe over time it will save me more!

This is just my opinion but making or buying yourself a home made unit from one of the many posts on forums is your better option.
There are lots of internet buddies dwindling away or out right dying so jump on any estate sale you can find locally.
There are a lot more enthusiasts on your coast so try advertising on the BRICKBOARD or on OFFER UP and similar community swap sites.

Good luck in your choices you find about your area.
Sorry, but I cannot be that good of a Volvo buddy!
As they say, talk is cheaper! (:-)

Phil
