Bell housing-1975 240 with B20 200 1975

Would anyone have a parts manual that covers the 1975 240? If so would you look up the part number for the bell housing?

Thanks in advance!

381244 if you have an M40/M41 transmission

1220303 if your transmission is an M45/M46.

May I ask why you need this information?

      Eric,

My application is an 1800 race car that has a transmission based on the M47. Not an M47, but a Swedish made dogbox specifically made for racing. The motor is a B20. Hydraulic clutch that was used in a 740.

The bell housing that I have, PN 1023519 that came with the car I thought was for a 75 240.

I found what was listed by a salvage yard as a 75 240 bell housing and bought it. It does NOT have the sleeve through which the transmission input shaft is fitted. It DOES have the sleeve for a hydraulic clutch. Has a weird PN -- 2W 812188. And it does fit an upright red block. But maybe it was from a B21.

      So, here are my questions:
      1. Are these both from 1975 240s?
      2. If so, what was the difference between the cars they came out of?3.
      3. Did some 1975 240s have M40/41s and some M45s.

I know little about the Volvos after 1973. B21 is like talking foreign language to me.

      Jim

        Hello Jim,

I have to admit that I don't know everything I should about all the versions of the OHC rear wheel drive transmissions Volvo made. There are some transmissions that we didn't get here in the US.

What year is your 1800? 1962-1968 with a hydraulically operated clutch or a 1969-1972 with a cable operated clutch?

Since your racing transmission is based on the M47, you are going to have to start with a later bellhousing than the 2 I have mentioned.

AFAIK, the only way to adapt a late M46 or any M47 to a B18/B20 is to cut the bellhousing and reweld it back together in the correct reclocked position.

There is a guy in The Netherlands who does this.

I have bought 1 of his adapter plates that reclocks the later B21/B23/B230 automatics to a B18/B20 for a customers car, but that modification does not require any welding.

        Here is the website.

FYI, Volvo did make a bellhousing that allowed an M45/M46 to bolt onto a B18/B20, but it only works on the early M45/M46s made up to 1978.

          Eric,

"What year is your 1800? 1962-1968 with a hydraulically operated clutch or a 1969-1972 with a cable operated clutch?" It's a '62 but all that is irrelevant. The body is Volvo, the block and head are Volvo, but beyond that ... (see www.pandbmotorsports.com)

"Since your racing transmission is based on the M47, you are going to have to start with a later bellhousing than the 2 I have mentioned." Well, I have one, and I was after a second. The PN 1023519 works without ANY modification. If I could just learn what 1023519 came from, I would have a fighting chance of finding a second.

"AFAIK, the only way to adapt a late M46 or any M47 to a B18/B20 is to cut the bellhousing and reweld it back together in the correct reclocked position." Glad to know that might be possible.

            Hello Jim,

            1023519 isn't a standard Volvo part number.

Can you post a picture of the bellhousing you have?

I have pictures and would be more than happy to post them, but I do not know how to do that. When I click on IMAGE URL -- [IMAGE LIBRARY (UPLOAD/SELECT] it takes me to a whole bunch of existing images. We could do this off the Brickboard if I could contact you.

                Hello Jim,

It's not as easy as it should be to post a picture.

I just sent an email to an address I think is yours from a conversation from over 7 years ago.

If that is you, email your pictures.
