Dash voltmeter power source? 200

Where to get the 12V source for VDO voltmeter?
Daughter’s ‘92 240 sedan, 5-speed, came to us with a VDO voltage gauge in the dash at the right side of the cluster. But it’s not connected to anything yet. Gauge has three pigtails hanging off the connector plug. It looks pretty clear which terminal and wire are for what. But I don’t see an unused connector harness in that area.

I expect to get dimmable illumination power by tapping into the dimmer at the left side of the cluster. But where is a good place to get the 12V power for the gauge? I’m pretty sure I can find a good ground location pretty easily.

Take a look at Art's account of how he did this.

    www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1438600

Note that he does it independently of the dimmer. He says, "These accessory gauges never needed dimming, in my opinion..."

I take that to mean the lighting in the accessory gauges is so poor you might as well not bother with the dimmer.

Anyway, this method has advantages over the Volvo design, as he explains in the post.
