1993 240 AC Accumulator - Will 4-Seasons 33112 Bolt Up? 200

I am about to crack open the AC system on my 1993 240. I remember reading here of the problem some fellow had fitting an aftermarket accumulator from FCP. I searched the archives many times but I cannot find the original posting. I also noticed that FCP no longer sells AC accumulators for the '93 240.

So, has anyone used a 4-Seasons, P/N 33112, Accumulator with the original hoses found on a 1993 240 R134A system?

I'm trying to prevent having an open system while I wait for an order from TASCA to arrive.

Thanks, one and all.

1993 240 AC Accumulator - Will 4-Seasons 33112 Bolt Up? 200

Hi,

This is not the first time I have read this about the 1993 model accumulator having different threads on the hose fittings.
It's also not surprising that there is a difference as many tiny things are unique to the 1993 production run.

I have two Four season accumulators stashed away. I purchased them from AutoZone last year and apparently caught them on sale or maybe not? They ran about $22 each of which I was surprised but then not as there are a lot of these Delco type systems running around out there!

The number on my units are 33141. They were purchased for my 1991and 1992 cars that are running R-12 refrigerants.
Volvo might have change the hose requirements to their vendor due to the R-134 refrigerant.
So in this case the hose fitting were also changed for the accumulator.
The reason for this is, family loves family! (:)
It may also be that the whole automotive industry was going or having to change, so to keep in step with vendors of the future, they marched to the same drum beat!

I will ask if you ran the pool table on your year car across many vendors of the 1993 and came up with the same reference. This would help put the monkey on their back if you did get one that doesn't work at all.

Again, it doesn't surprise me that they will look very similar but the fittings changed!
They are tooled up to press out the canisters, that are time proven and just slip in a couple different fittings or just one fitting even! Cheap to meet a mandate for everyone! Well almost?
Just take a look into the plumbing trade and see how those yo-ho's have that really screwed up when it comes to thread sizes that can be made on Computer Numerical Controlled machines.
All they have to do is lick their pointed little index finger and punch any "odd ball" number of threads and any irrational diameter dimension and bam it's done!
The consumer then gets to use his other "under his breathe" vocabulary and make several trips to the hardware store to find out ... "Oh! They went out of business as fast as their lease ran out on the CNC!"
Well, at least something like that?
They could be making the fittings for any Air Conditioning vendor just to stay in a business that was more lucrative than "one off" line of plumbing fixtures.

If I were you, go with the 33112 part number as Four seasons has been in the game for quite awhile!

Phil

1993 240 AC Accumulator - Will 4-Seasons 33112 Bolt Up? 200

I refurbished my 93 A/C system a few years back and ran into an issue with the aftermarket accumulator. Here is the thread:

https://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1620464/220/240/260/280/accumulatordryer_ac_system.html

Bottom line is that I had to use the Volvo OE one, and not the aftermarket. I was not replacing the hoses, which did not fit on the aftermarket accumulator.

Thanks.

Thanks, Jeff, that is the exact posting I have been seeking.

Sad to say, there is a lot of good info there, but all the images are broken.

I have two 4 Seasons P/N 33112's, so I guess I'll have to breach the system to find out if they fit. I'm a little concerned that FCP does not offer '93 accumulators and, more so, that the OE Volvo part from TASCA coats four times as much. I'm down to the wire on this project, so I'm hoping being cheap doesn't bite me.

Thanks, again,

Rich (near The Burgh)
