Driving solo, any way to ascertain spark? 900 1994

With nobody to crank over the engine, is there any way to determine spark status without a remote starter or the like?

Thanks!

Remove the plug with the longest wire, reconnect the plug back in the boot. tie the plug to the wiper post with a bit of wire, lay plug on the windshield.

If necessary, lay something over the plug to darken the area.

PS - I always carry an old plug so I can test for spark without tools.

All you need is a jumper to connect the socket to battery power.

Years ago I pull the plug that had the longest wire. Then kinda laid it on the valve cover and putting the tip close to metal. I did this late in the day. I was able to look under the hood opening while cranking. I did put the hood fully up. Not sure if the 94s have that feature to put it completely vertical.

      Plus one on this trick.
I thought everybody knew this one...

You just have to be sure the plug spark won't cause some kind of fuel related incident.

Late in the day or shadow helps, but sometimes you can hear the spark plug "clicking" too.

      Good luck.

      Dear aleekat,

Hope you're well. Yes! Hoods on 940s can be raised to the fully-vertical position.

Your suggestion should go into the site's FAQs!

      Hope this helps.

      Yours faithfully,

      Spook
