Dear 1908242DLa, Volvo changed the hinges in the mid-80's. The later version does not have that grease fitting. It is not possible to inject grease.
My 87 and I'm sure your 88 has the newer style hinge.
Looking at Art's first pic. notice those 2 wheels and the U spring that rides on them. The failure to Lube those wheels can cause the U Spring to Snap. When this happens there is Nothing to constrain the door from swinging all the way out Beyond reason and at times violently. What happens is that the metal on the door, that the hinge bolt to RIPS. This happens to the lower hinge, which is where that Wheel/Spring is located.
So this requires that you not only replace the hinge, because the U Spring Broke, but you will have to remove the Door so that you can spot-weld the tear in the metal. If you just replace the hinge --- relatively easy job, you will eventually enlarge that Tear ubless you are really carefull to not allow the door swing full wide.
