Kevlar timing belt 900

Hi, a few years ago (5 maybe) I purchased a kevlar timing belt for a red-block from someone. I do not see it on any of the vendor sites anymore. I recently rebuilt my engine and installed the one I had purchased a few years back. Since it does not seem to be available any longer, I was wondering why. Is no longer available? Why? Was it a slow mover? Was it defective? I'd like to know, especially if they did not hold up so I can replace the one I have on the engine since it is now an interference motor because of an aftermarket cam.

Still available at FCP Euro 900

Its Gates Racing Blue belt. The belt is still available at FCP Euro.

    Round tooth (for latter 940):

    Square tooth (for earlier 940):

I installed this in 2014 and still using it today. No major issue during installation except the belt was a bit thick compared to the OE variety in that there wasn't much slack with the tensioner pin released (i.e it doesn't stretch a bit as the OE). Retensioning after 1000km was still at the same tension. I'm only at 40k km now maybe another 60k to go. Only caveat is that it costs almost 3x the price of OE.

    Regards,
    Amarin.

Thanks, didn't see it on the FCP site but will return for a second look-see.
I'm also interested in whether I should look at a shorter replacement cycle since I have the IPD Turbo cam installed now which should cause greater stress on the belt with the higher and sharper cam bumps.

        Belt change interval 900

Replacement interval for turbo car is at 50000 km. However for turbo car with EGR is at 100000 km. These are for normal OE belts. I guess using the kevlar belt you could first do basic inspection for tell tale signs of cracks in the rubber, oil contamination from leaking seals and so on, when it is due for replacement. If these checks out I think you might stretch the milage a little bit by doing frequent inspections at every 5000km to 10000km intervals. Its the age (time), heat and oil that deteriorate belts - much less of the belt's stress itself. Low mileage belts in less used cars got affected by time developing cracks needing early replacement.

Semi-synthetic and synthetic oils are highly recommended for use in turbo cars. They help to conduct the heat away and reduce friction (stress) in the engine.

        Regards,
        Amarin.
