940SE Vacuum Hose Routing 900

Does anybody have a vacuum hose routing diagram for a 1991 940SE wagon? I've just bought one and there's a loose hose hanging that comes from the passenger side feed through the firewall.

Dear sredwine,

Hope you're well. I usually stand aside, when a non-parts question is asked about a 900 series model, with which I'm not personally familiar or for which I don't have Volvo manuals.

There should be a vacuum hose routing diagram in the engine compartment. But such a diagram could only cover the engine's vacuum hoses.

So, a couple of questions. Does your car's climate control work properly? Does your car's cruise control work properly?

Is the hose, that is "handging", inside the engine compartment or inside the passenger compartment? Your comment suggests it is hanging in the engine compartment. If so, is it on the driver's side of the engine or on the passenger's side of the engine?

Answers to these questions - even absent a vacuum hose routing diagram - may be useful.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Thanks Spook. Hose goes from passenger-side firewall across and hangs near intake manifold on driver's side. All ports there have hoses. ACC works. Cruise does not, but all hoses seem to be there. Someone has worked on the hoses-not sure what they did.

Dear sredwine,

Hope you're well. Does you car have a turbo or does it have the B234F engine? I ask, because I should be able to supply the part numbers for the vacuum hose decals, presuming the factory-installed vacuum hose diagram decals have been removed or aren't readable.

For example, on a 940SE (1991) with a turbo, the decals are: #3536457 ($3 at a U.S.-based Volvo dealer) and #3536459 ($13). I can't tell - because of small and blurry images in Volvo VADIS (a superseded dealer parts/service database) - which of these decals might be helpful. It's possible neither shows the loose hose.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

It's a turbo, Spook-I think all 940SE wagons were.

Dear sredwine,

Hope you're well. You're correct: a B234 engine was installed in 1991 940s, that did not have the "SE" rating.

Thus, the part numbers for the decals relating to vacuum hoses - that I provided in an earlier post - are correct for your car.

As the vacuum hose in question goes through the firewall, it is not related to engine management.

Does the climate control's "Recirculate" feature work correctly? On the VADIS climate control diagram, the vacuum hose that goes to the bellows, which actuates "Recirculation" seems separate from the supply of vacuum to the "doors" that control airflow (i.e., to dash vents, windshield, floor, etc.).

A VADIS vacuum hose diagram shows that the hose from the intake manifold goes to a "T", from which run two hoses, each to a check valve. The diagram does not show where those two hoses go, after they leave the each check valve.

Thus, trace the vacuum hose(s) from the intake manifold to find one that goes to a "T". Then, see where go the hoses that run from that "T". It may be that someone disconnected the hose that goes from the "T" to the climate control unit's "recirculate function". That hose now dangles loose, in the engine bay.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

There's a diagram over near the AC receiver/dryer, but it only shows the engine vacuum lines-EGR and a couple other things.
