Oil Catch Cans? 200 1980

I read about oil catch cans, eg

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XK9PTP7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Has anyone used this in a N/A (non-turbo) Volvo?

If so where did you mount the catch can?

Any tips?

Thanks

Unless you are 'consuming' 2-4 quarts of oil between gas tank fillups and want to catch the oil and pour back into the engine, why bother?

Your PCV system is quite good at routing crankcase oil vapors back to the intake to be burned. Less than 1 quart every 5,000 miles is pretty good in an older car. If you have a catch can, not all of the vapors will condense into liquid oil, plus you will then have something else that needs attention every few thousand miles. Along with an air freshner for the cabin.

I doubt many enviro testing stations will approve of the modification.

I really don't see the need for an oil catch can in the Volvo engine. In looking at the Amazon link, it looks slightly like a remote oil filter set-up that was suggested to me some time ago. That modification I could see a practical use for, but not a catch can.

My question--why would you need this? I've used a catch can (home made) on my sometimes track car 144S -- but that involved running near redline for much of a lap on the track and reduced the chance of leaks at the crankshaft seals.
HERE'S A CATCHCAN STORY -- My Danish friend Gert joined his friend with a Model A Ford which they drove from Denmark to Italy. Well on their way, it developed a severe rear main seal leak. The answer was to hang a bucket under the chassis and refill the crankcase every once in a while with the drippings :-)
BTW--my 1980 245 M46 with over 300k will use less than a pint between NY to NC and back. -- Dave

      Thanks.

I thought it might be helpful because it would prevent blow-by oil and other combustion products from entering the intake manifold.

Do you doubt the need because my car is normally aspirated?

      Thanks

"Do you doubt the need because my car is normally aspirated?" -- no, NA or not makes no difference. I only ask because unless you have severe blow-by in normal driving a catch-can apparatus is kind of overkill. The 1980 has the large diameter flame trap-to-cam cover hose and small vacuum hose to manifold nipple. As long as the flame trap is clear and the same for the nipple in the manifold the motor's own vent system can handle things. -- Dave
