while driving and running about 3000 rpm, my tachometer bounces to over 4k.
does not settle down, (I have recently put an electronic ignition).

Does anyone know what would cause a bouncy tach?

Bouncy Tach is a symptom of dried electrolytic capacitors within Tach electronics or incompatibility with electronic Ign controllers... if it never exhibited these new symptoms before installing Ign Elec, cause is likely the later. See also: http://www.sw-em.com/Smith's%20Tachometer.htm
