The old green mare had the seat covers washed and the carpets cleaned as I am refreshing the interior.

As both b pillar plastic covers were shot, I purchased new ones to install while the seats are out. However, to properly pass the belt through the slot in the new plastic requires disassembly of the coiled up section of seat belt secured by the lower attachment bolt.

I'm a little uneasy about removal of that bolt and monkeying with the lower section of seat belt. Anyone out there that's gone where this man has not willing to provide some insight?

Thanks, in advance

Marty

What if you unbolted the upper anchor point? Would you be able to feed it and the male buckle part through the slot?

We tried that last weekend. The only way to get that seat belt through the b-pillar slot is from the bottom. Disassembly of that coiled up seat belt makes me uneasy

The other alternative is to make a deft slice at the b-pillar slot and slide the belt through and repair the slice with some JB Weld.

Thanks for your thoughts Chris

Hi,

I don't know where you got the new (after market ?) pillar covers but on my 1986 wagon I remember them having a slit cut from the rearward side. I suppose it will be seen less from that direction and will not have the tendency to pull into it.

A slot is the only answer for what it's worth. I'm also learning that the 1993 does have some things that are unique to only it!

The Dremel company use to make a cutting blade that was like a circular saw that was only .005 thick. Otherwise, find the thinnest plastic cutting blade for wood or you are stuck with your trusty hand hacksaw blade.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the response.

Looks like a surgical procedure is in order.

The pillars came from www.swedishcarparts.com
Initial look seems pretty original looking. Color and texture seem similar to originalbeige.

FWIW - I had a very bad experience with Swedish Car Parts over steering rack boots and will never do business with them again. It's true that there are many ridiculous changes in the '93 -- but the post cover is not one of them. My '93 245 215 Olds V8 conversion has the same slot cut into the rear of the opening for the belt exit slot as my 2 '89 parts cars. The slot is only an inch long and half of it is covered by the channel trim. A hobby Exacto saw blade should do the job in a jiffy. - Dave

Chuck,

Will I be able to disassemble the coiled up seatbelt hiding beyond that lower mounting bolts without getting into trouble?

Thanks
