Anyone Heard of a Cracked Torque Converter" 900 1993

I'm pulling the 03-71L transmission out of my daughter's 1993 940 sedan with 230K miles on it this weekend.

I went to see a transmission shop to see if they could replace the leaking torque converter seal and bushing on Monday. They have replaced a couple seals and a bushing in the past and I have had no leaks, although the torque converter seal had never leaked in the other couple replacements. I had the seals and bushing replaced previously because the engine rear main seal was leaking.

The shop mentioned that they pressure test the torque converters for leaks. I can't see where anyone on the Brickboard had ever has a cracked torque converter. Anyone heard of this?

very very rare and on a low out put 4 banger almost unheard of. with that said, a defect in the base material, heat, stress risers, bad weld, etc etc.

you might as well consider replacing with a lower mileage transmission complete with converter rather than putting anew converter into that transmission

i suspect the money is similar especially if YOU supply the transmission from a junkyard

I've not ever heard it mentioned on this board until this thread, but it reminded me of one I cracked in a pushbutton Torqueflite by abusing it. It leaked profusely.

indeed art, the only ones i ever saw that had developed cracks were from my days at the east haddam ct dragway in the 1969-1975 era. all beefed up v8's punishing the transmission on every run.

on a low output b230!!!!, i suppose its possible
