240 Right rear brake hard line needed 200

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement brake hard line for the right rear of a 240 (1991 240 no ABS).

I was installing new hoses from the proportioning valve back to this line and the connector I guess was seized onto the line and I twisted it off.

None of the usual parts places seem to have this part. I haven't tried an actual Volvo dealer because its probably NLA.

Any sources or advice appreciated.

I did this right rear corner on my 1988 240 this last winter. Uses the double flare and was 21" or 24" with british fittings. I have the flaring tool but like the stock piece from napa better. It cannot leak or weep. I still had to make the bends myself and the fit on top of the axle must copy the original. I have the bender to and they're inexpensive but you can do the bends on small tubing by hand. Girling calipers for us on the back, so brit fitting for us also. If the keep the merchandiser stocked you should find it. I would take my very clean caliper with me and get the correct one from the beginning. I thought I might kill my first go with it, I did. The correct length escapes me, but the correct just fits. I probably had the thing in and out a dozen times so don't crank the soft fitting down at the start, the block female fitting for the flex hose on the axle is a concern for cross threading. I replaced mine because it rubbed ever so slightly on the sway bar. Patience for this job, the coil spring is in the way and I as I remember I had to screw this snake through the spring and over the top of the pumpkin many times to get the correct fit. I also spent time making a new bracket for the flex hose support, there was much rust with any small sheet metal brackets. Also I fabed a replacement for the plastic piece that locates the tube before the last bend on the axle by the wheel. It's these little jobs allow true bonding of man and machine. Got a pull and pay? Do not use adapters on high pressure fittings, keep looking for the correct part, I know. Keith

Volvo brake lines use a BUBBLE flare, not double. Aka iso flare.

hi blues- youre right Volvo uses a bubble flare not a double(American). to make the bubble end . you can use the flare toolkits compression implements but you have to get bubble flare adapters for the pressing ends. these may not be available except from Volvo for billions. they may want you to buy a whole new toolkit for compression. afraid to theorize what Volvo dealer would charge for that. auto parts store may have a lendable toolkit for this. tough racket working on the technicalities of an old Volvo. Plymouth sedan is easier, but rust claimed all of them in nj. trickster- youre quite ambitious attempting a double flare on a Volvo. how do you get that flare to work in the Volvo caliper? sounds like a real mfugga. thankstons oldduke

Thanks for the correction. I also made a mistake when I said I got the correct length with two correct ends affixed. I did cut and bubble flair one end. Auto Zone had the tool set but some one before me had bent the littlest button die and required looking for a good set across town. I found keeping the flair centered in the tubing somewhat challenging. Nothing leaked, but I spent alot of time on it. Keith

Very interesting discussion, thanks guys. BrickTank came to my rescue with a used hard line from his extensive collection of 240's. Installed it today and no leaks with the power bleeder pumped up.

Got ready to bleed the system just as the rain started :-(

bubble flare 200

Hey oldduke I wonder if the original brickers ever hooked up and a used brake line solved the original question? Anyhow, bubble flare is not difficult especially with that soft cupro-nickel material. The adapter dies are the same as you get in a set for making double flares; they just get used on the flat side of the bar instead of the side with the cone. The trickiness is in getting the protruding length right first time. I use a Ridgid brand bar and the double adapter set from a Sears Roebuck kit. Nothing exotic or special to Volvo. I think all Euro brakes use bubble (ISO) flares.

bubble flare 200

hi arty b- that's a very good point. didn't know you could use a regular flaring kit to make bubble flares. have used junk yard brake lines years ago but sometimes you would break or damage the nut which tightens into the wheel cylinder or caliper. brought back a few memories of junk yard adventures. actually salvaged a lot of used parts in yards. sometimes you would find a real stash of parts some poor joker must have put into a car which he just totaled. wow got a master, new brake hoses a new radiator, new alternator and a few other items for pocket change out of 64 dodge I found wrecked in 70. they all went right into my 64 dodge jalopy. bet my Volvo bruthas here would think I'm a real cheap bastid doing that. actually saved a real fortune . then spent the savings on bad women. what a dope. good to hear from you. hope you haven't been stumped lately. thanks tons oldduke

Go to an auto parts store and get some 3/16" Nicop line, a iso/bubble flare tool, and iso fittings and make your own. I had to replace some lines on our 960 and it really wasn't very hard.

hi brick pop and blues- Volvo uses the softer and easier to form and bend nicop or cupernickel brake lines but dollars spent may be fat. the flaring kit is about $75. I bought one and did a job just like this on a 76 Plymouth but that was steel lines as used in most American tanks. you have different press fittings to form the bubble flare. most American cars use the double flare fittings to form the line end.make sure you follow the instructions . with both types you will cuss heinously, maybe less with the cupernickel b/c it is softer, more malleable. good luck. regards oldduke

you can get a length of line from any local auto parts store. Or they can crip an add cnctrs to the length. Cheap

it won't be the long lasting copper/xxx line that Volvo used. It will be steel.
Just check the threads at the end of the new line compared to yours.
Mostly pretty much standard.
