Volvo 240 Wagon reverse lockout problem 200 1991

I am 15 years old and I bought my first car with my dad 4 days ago, we got a 91 manual 240 wagon. The car in overall condition is pretty good and it runs and drives great. I need help on fixing the reverse lockout on the shifter, when we got the car it worked and yesterday the lockout stopped working, the collar moves up and down without and spring force pulling it down, so it doesn't do what it needs to do in order to shift into reverse.

    The plastic pull rod inside the handle probably broke and its still available and I have them in stock for $7.22 plus shipping.
