my 66 122 drives fine but when turning hard to starboard [right ]I get a consistant thump,thump,thump from the rear am thinking it is the rear wheel bearing, going in the garage this weekend and if there is any input I would appreciate it, thanks it doesn't do it when I turn left 2tired

ok so a wheel bearing would have been to easy, replaced them both, they were tired t but not the culprit, so I pulled the rear end cleaned everything up and my detective work shows a spicer 27 with dana 30 guts, so I called the only diff shop within a 100 miles they say there books show nothing avalible, were can I get side gears and does anyone know a reputable builder in the Spokane area? thanks 2tired

May I assume your found a "27" that is cast into the webbing of the central pumpkin?

What parts do you suspect are from a 30? I know they share a lot of bearings, the only difference is the bearing races for the carrier bearings.

How many bolts retain the ring gear?

A 27 has 8 bolts and a 30 has 10?

it has 8 bolts, the ring gear has the following #S cast in 3 18 65 dana 31394 M8R40 41-10 hope that helps 2tired

If there are only 8 ring gear bolts then it has 27 guts.

I'll call my supplier on Monday and see what he has.

In the past, I have been able to get all the parts new to rebuild a 27, but their inventory is dwindling.

Axles are pretty tough. I'd be checking the trailing arm rubber bushings and the front pucks if you have the pressed arms. Rubbers cheaper to fix than diffs.
