alternator pulley nut torque 200

Anyone know where one can find the pulley nut torque for a 88 240 alternator? Did not see it in the FAQ nor in the Bentley manual. The "Technical Bulletin" that came with the alternator states "NOTE: When installing a pulley on your alternator you should use a 1/2" drive air impact, set to a high power setting, to insure sufficient torque."

alternator pulley nut torque 200

I've been working on cars my entire life (professionally) and have never seen a pulley installed on a generator or alternator in any other manner other than with an impact gun. I don't even think you could hold the shaft well enough to apply the torque needed without damaging something on the unit using a torque wrench. I hold a shop rag around the fan with one hand and my I-R 1/2 inch drive impact for pulley removal and re-installation. If you don't have the tool, carry the alternator to the closest shop to home and ask a tech to do it. Chances are --even if they don't know you -- they'll do it and wish you a nice day. Takes about 30 seconds start to finish. -- Dave

Thanks Dave. I have a high torque cordless impact with 3 settings, rated up to 700 ftlbs. Used the rag method as you suggested and impact wrench set at the middle setting #2 (don't know the ftlbs at that setting) to remove the pulley nut. Just wanted to make sure I don't under/over torque when I reverse the procedure to reinstall.
