My rear muffler, tail pipe, and under axle pipe are all rusting and require replancing, thought the resonator seems ok. FCP Euro has a L shaped tail pipe in addition to the S shaped one that I currently have.

Is there a reason to get one vs the other?

    The S shaped tail pipe is a "factory" replacement. The "L" shaped tail pipe is a bastardization of the original. But probably works just as well. :)

        the OEM "S" one appears to produce less backdraft of exhaust. when i have use the L shape I always smell exhaust in the car at times

          Put the "L" on last summer. It looks more "modern" and "sportier" (for a normally aspirated, stock volvo 240 that's asking a lot)
          I agree, it does make the exhaust swirl around the rear A LOT!
          Going back to "S" when the "L" one rusts away.

          It seems like my hitch will only work with the L shape.

            I've had to turn bumper cartridge / hitch long bolt (versus the two shorter bolts) and washer / nut stack upside down so the nut and bolt end is inside the trunk at both sides.

            The bolt head is just above the pipe that goes into the rear muffler and over the tail pipe.

            Whether with a hitch and new rear muffler hangar shackles.

            S-pipes usually with a few L-tail pipes as it came that way one the 240 with purchase. Though if replacing exhaust, S-pipe.

            Though I'd not trailered anything in many, many years.

            On my 74 144, the S shape gives a smoother idle than the L.
            No other noticeable difference in performance.
