IPD has 164 front anti-sway bars again?! 140-160

I thought they gave up on the 164 a long time ago...

There is no listing for a rear bar but it is the same as the 140.

25mm is way too thick, 22mm can crack A pillars.

Putting a bar on the rear of a 140 or 164 is a no no except if using a locked diff and even then, I only used a 16mm.

Most of the aftermarket parts at ipd are ill thought out and/or overpriced.

I disagree on the front bar thickness. I have run a 30mm Addco bar on a 220 for 10 years and feel is is well balanced.

Is the leverage different on a 220? Do you have a swaybar or stiffer springs on the rear?

Personally, I would NOT fit anything bigger than stock without stiffing the lower A-arm 1st because it will break.

I found a simple (read-cheap) rear bar solution for my '69 144S by fitting a bar from a 240 series. With a few washer/spacers between the bar and the trailing arms - and distance pieces inside the arms, the bars are solidly mounted and the pass through bolts serve the dual purpose of stiffening the trailing arms. For my purposes a 25mm Volvo competition front bar (gift from an ex-ITB racer) and a 240 19mm bar in the rear work just fine. -- Dave

I used 240 swaybars in the same fashion using 1/2" bolts and spacers. A regular HSS drill went through the bar with no problem. I also have an aftermarket bar that bolts directly to the control arms too. I dunno what drugs the designer of the ipd rear bar was on, they sure make some junk.

Paul,

Do you have any additional information on this rear sway bar you are using? Still available or something you fabricated yourself? Curious!
