Backup lights not working - possible causes?

HI all,
I have learned much about fixing my taillights and now have drilled holes in the bottom of the outer running/brake lights.
However, neither of my back-up lights are now not working. I just had the battery replaced. Could this have caused something?

I have searched on the forum and see that the PNP switch is a possible culprit. Are there others that anyone can point to? Also, here's a dumb question - where the heck is my fuse panel in this car? Maybe I've got a bad fuse...

As was suggested, check the bulbs first.

It is possible that the right rear bulb burned out and you never noticed, (unless you check all your bulbs frequently) then the left one burned out.

Backup lights not working - possible causes? 200 1985

I'll guess this is on your 1985 244 DL sedan?

    So, we can:
    http://volvowiringdiagrams.com/

Use your test light and tes whether near battery DC volts at the tail light connector, and if no, work you way back.

From the +VDC at the tail lights, the two conductor merges into one and the circuit goes to transmission reverse light switch, and then back to the fuse.

Inspect both bulbs, the bulb holders, the bulb holder contact quality with the stupid flexi circuit boards and backward and so forth.

If other taillight bulbs work, the ground connection is okay. Never hurts to give a wiggle so the star lock washer has new conductive material to bit into as the car body serves as a ground plane (versus a ground loop or ring around the unibody for devices to ground to to reduce coorosion chance. Oh well).

The 1985 240 diagram PDF is an atrocious hybrid of the normally useful circuit components, and see PDF page 18 of 21 with the fuse panel. You may want to access your fuse panel for the legend, see if power goes from the right (load side) of the panel.

Oh, you also have the "TP30808-1 1985 240 260 Wiring Diagrams.pdf" and that is useful in the same directory.

    Questions?

    Hope that helps.
