Replacing Front Flex lines '91 - 745 700

HI Bricksters
I'm trying to replace my front flex lines with braided SS lines. There are two lines on each side. I can unscrew the lines from the caliper end no problem. But at the junction of the flex line and hard line, there is a retainer bracket that keeps them close to the inner wheel well. The retainer blocks the wrench flats on the flex line, so how do I put a wrench on there to hold it while I try to unscrew the hard line flare nut? Do I have to cut that bracket away to get access to the wrench flats? Thanks! Greg

You should not be using an open end wrench for this job--a sure fire recipe for rounding off the fittings. This calls for a quality line wrench. I don't recall the exact setup on a 700 models. The same bracket function on a 240 is a bolt on part--but leaves room for a line wrench. -- Dave

      Thanks Dave
I was mistaken, the bracket does not block access to the wrench flats, and with a good flare nut wrench, PB Blaster and some heat I was able to unscrew all of the solid to flex line unions. I am following the FAQs for the Jumbo brake conversion and have installed new discs and calipers (single piston)and plugged the unused ports to the second caliper line on each side.

Having trouble bleeding the calipers, using a Mityvac have sucked 2 pints of DOT4 through but still getting air coming with each pump. I must have an air leak somewhere. I do not find fluid leaking at the unions or the plugs. Any ideas?

      Thanks
      Greg
