Hi bmwjohn,
See the PICKNPULL page. Uncle Old Duke's concern some months ago of replacement M47 transmissions for 240 (and others) motivated me find these using search engines.
Though, please beware, the M47 is a frail beast that will last the life of the RWD M47-era Volvo auto with a gentle shift, clean oil topped up (overfill), and properly adjust clutch (if not hydraulic) freeplay. So, it can help to inspect the M47 before purchase. That could include removing the top cover and / or the fill and drain plugs, while with case right side down.
May not hurt, on used M47, to replace seals, if not already. Yet gaskets, such as the one between the primary gear and the rear 5th gear / oil splash chamber can fail. Such thin gaskets. Awful thin.
On used M47, worry if the prior owner or user for sometime would user reverse gear to park. Can break a spring retainer, though is near the top of the M47 under the cover, if I can recall clearly.
New M47 II may be had for about 1000-1200$ Yet you need flywheel (I'm unsure) for clutch and EZK116 engine position / crank speed sensor (CPS). The drive shaft works, and the pedal assembly, and the giubo (not guibo) flex coupler.
Also, there is a jumper on the LH-Jet 2.4/3.1 wire harness (or is it the EZK116 harness, or both?) that you change from one socket to another that indicates to the engine control whether the transmission is auto or manual.
There is a path using the Tremec T-5 transmission. Light or lighter, and way simpler, than M47, yet can handle up to 300 HP. There may be kits to do this. Or require fabrication.
I may be getting my facts confused or wrong here. It's been so long.
Hope that helps you.
TGIF MacDuffed.
