I can't figure out where the oil is leaking.
New seal (2 of them, since I thought the first must have been bad). Still leaked, Pulled flange and sealed with silicone on splines and under the washer. Torqued properly (actually a little over, book says 70 pounds).
Leaves a sizable spot - Photo- 10 minutes after parking.

Does the shaft have a groove worn around it where the old seal ran ? if so, you may be able to either drive the seal a little deeper or not quite as deep so the lip runs on an unworn part of the output shaft. There probably is a speedi-sleeve that would fit too.

The sealing surface is smooth and shiny.
The oil isn't coming from the seal, it comes out between the mating surfaces of the flange.
In the photo you can see that the area around the output shaft is dry and no oil is dripping from the area under the transmission case.
It's going back up on jack stands today for another try.
Thanks for the response

WOW!!!
I was really off base with my assessment of the problem.
I outlined my problem to Eric (Planetman) and he suggested that it could be the seal in the shift cover (I have the long cover and short shifter). and the oil was running down the plastic cover and dripping out the little hole just above the flange.
I pulled the transmission and...right on the money! Though the seal was possibly good, the shaft was pitted from rust where it passes through the seal.
Strangely, it is only rusted on the top, where you can't see it. A little close scrutiny and it appears as though my shift cover sat outside upside down and filled with water causing the rust.
A new shaft or a new shift cover and this case will be closed.

Here's what the shift rod looks like.
Every time I shifted I just squeezed a little oil past the seal.

Some moisture in the gear box? Like it would condensate at the top, and moisten the top of the gear selector rod, causing corrosion over time?

How do you treat the rust so it seals going forward? New selector rod? How do you repair this?

Just wondering.

Happy Friday.

It looks as though the cover was upside down and filled with water for quite some time.
The inside of the cover has a water line of rust, since the cover won't rust, it is just a deposit from the rusting shift rod.
Eric (planetman) was able to locate a good used shift rod for me and now all is good.
I'm fortunate to live fairly near Eric's shop and I have yet to need or want a part he doesn't have, or can't get within a couple of days.
