The simplest answer ... depends on your new shocks.

There are a few that have the *wrong* width steel sleeves that the mounting bolts go through. What brand did you install?

Also, do you happen to have some junk in the trunk rattling around? Seriously, even though it's funny, a loose jack can make that noise. I think the exhaust is pretty likely too. Climb underneath and grab hold of the (cold) exhaust pipe towards the rear and yank on it. Any noises? Torn rubber mounting thingers?
