Perform the tasks and inspect causes to rule out a failed switch as Uncle Art directs in the prep section of his website article.
Don't get the FAE brand switch. And don't get so-called universal stop (or brake light) switches. The barrels are made of aluminum. The thread barrel and the switch body are weekly joined together and can fail as you adjust brake light switch plunger stand off from the brake pedal level.
Current Volvo PN is 3544691. Dunno the OEM.

My entry on this deplorable task. In 2015 I replaced the switch three times across two states.

FCP also sells Volvo OEM for more than Tasca.

An SLS that appears like that which is OEM, as Art shows, should be a near drop in that may not require stand off adjust to and from the brake pedal.
Say no to FAE and MTC brand for your 240. Or anything that appears as such. Though on web pages appearance can deceive.
Slappy Friday. 'Tis the EggNog Hollidayze, Once Again.
