SRS Light Stays On 900

Dear Steven E,

Hope you're well. Yes. I have a complete list of OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) codes. Please report which codes you see, when you interrogate the OBD System.

Sometimes a transient electrical surge can cause the warning light to come "on". The system can be re-set by disconnecting the negative battery cable clamp from the negative battery terminal. This cuts all power to the car. Wait 30 minutes and reconnect. Drive the car. If the SRS light again comes "on", you can try two further disconnects. If - after that - the SRS light stays "on" after start-up, something is amiss.

Be sure you have the radio security code, before cutting power to the car. If you don't have the code, call a Volvo dealer and provide your car's Vehicle Identification Number. If the radio is the factory-installed item, the dealer will be able to provide the radio security coade.

If your car is parked outside a mouse could have chewed through part of the wiring harness. The SRS sensor is inside the car, beneath the carpet, under the driver's seat. Before trying to remove the driver's seat, disconnect the negative battery cable clamp from the negative battery terminal, and put the clamp in a plastic bag (to isolate it). Wait 15 minutes. The driver's seat may then be removed. Dropping the seat on the SRS sensor could trigger the airbag. At close quarters, that can be lethally dangerous. Even if not lethal, it will be costly: the airbag, sensor and wiring harness will have to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
