tranny kick down cable replacement 700 1990

I have a 1990 740 volvo turbo wagon approaching 300 thousand mi., my overdrive stopped at about half that and have been driving since with no problem. My question is that if I replace the kick down cable will my overdrive come back or will this complicate anything.

No the kick down cable has nothing to do with the OD, Check the FAQ's for OD, may be a fuse, relay, shorted OD solenoid wire, of dead solenoid.

I have a 92 740 non-turbo and I've had to replace the overdrive solenoid twice. Actually I had it done because you have to get under the car and feel for where the wire goes from the solenoid to the transmission. Then you need s stubby little wrench-forgot what size, but likely 10mm. I never could get that thing out. There's not much room to work.I think the part is around $80 if i remember. So much easier if it's up on a rack.Or even jack stands-careful,though. Is your orange arrow light on? If you can get a diagram of the solenoid and where it goes, with patience, you'll be able to remove and replace it. Then you can go into 4th again.------------ Tink
