The wife put the last remote or key fob in the washer and I am looking to

Ebay shows a bunch. Pull your FCC ID off the back of your remotes.

I did not get a key fob with my car ,the previous owner did not have one so I have no idea what the FCC ID is , so is it possible to expect that any key fob will / might work ?

You will need to find out which specific key fob you need based on year , model, and maybe VIN.

Ditto. Most dealer parts guys are pretty helpful. Take your vin # to them, and they should be able to tell you the FCC ID.
